Wow !! Four months since my last post. Not that I have not thought about writing or been sewing... just was not in composing mode I guess.

I have been stitching and am currently working on rows featured in  Row By Row Experience 2015.  The theme for 2015 is water and there are such creative designs showing up in fabric stores in Canada and the United States. The patterns are free and fabric kits and license plates may be available for sale. Each store has an individual design personal to them.

My first row was from Atlantic Fabrics in New Glasgow. I'm loving the water theme. 

A kit and a fabric license plate arrived from Quilting B & More in Charlottetown PEI after a trip across the Northumberland Strait thanks to a kind brother.

This design so mirrows the island look.

There is no set layout for the rows and I am too impatient to wait until I get more so I am just going to sash them and see what happens.

TREE BIRD

  Welcome to the first day of spring and my day to share birdy creations. When I signed up weeks ago I thought SPRING and all the wonderful fresh beginnings it implied. In my little corner of the world  - Atlantic Canada - we have been treated by nature to weeks of major blizzards and snowstorms and Nor'easters.   

  Looked in my  stash and found lots of bird prints. 

 I took the quilt for a walk in my driveway this morning for pictures. I normally take pics on my clothesline but too much snow to reach it. These are taken in the banks beside the drive. They have reached 8 feet tall making it nearly impossible to shovel the snow. Lots of hours of shoveling to clear it this morning. But I did get the car out.

  A mixture of winter and summer birds means lots of color.   This was a real learning process because it is my first quilt-as -you-go. 

The fabric featured on this hop is so pretty. Could not resist it when it appeared at the local fabric store. 

 

First time I ever tried graphing letters.

Square in a square is a great way to feature pretty prints.

 These bright and perky birds cheered up the winter.  You always need something when Xmas disappears.

We Support You

 Welcome to my day on the We Support You blog.  As it happens Feb.4  2015 is World Cancer Day.  I doubt if there are many whose lives have not been touched by this awful illness. In March I will be a 9 year Surivor.  As a survivor of Breast Cancer I entered a whole new world.

I sew my way through so many things but it was difficult to choose a project for this. I had a basket of Breast Cancer fabrics picked up over the last years sitting on a shelf which has been calling me for a while.  

So a quilt it was to be.

Very simple square in a square pattern. The top is stitched and ready for the quilter. And a cozy flannel picked for the back.

I did not realize how many different prints I had accumulated.  Or how many had words.

Because when you are diagnosed your world seems to be fragmented into so many pieces I thought a crazy patchwork block was appropriate.

 

We have angels among us. I figured they needed their own memory block.

And for that special friend who so generously offered time, energy and especially emotional support a pillow. She has been my sounding board and always has a listening ear ready.

I belong to a support group for Breast Cancer Survivors.  At the start of each meeting you give your name and the number of years since diagnosis. It is so powerful to hear voices say 28 years ~ 16 years 5 months ~ 6 months etc.  There is so much hope offered in hearing these voices.  Especially for the newly diagnosed and those starting treatment. A whole world of friends sharing wisdom.  

At the end of each Women Alike support meeting we form a circle, join hands and recite: " We have the power to make this day a good one." I wish you all a good day because within ourselves we have so much power.

BITS & PIECES

Bits & Pieces

Hard to believe we are one month into 2015. Despite my resolutionsto do frequent blog updates; use stash; not buy more fabric and not begin any more projects until the UFO pile shrinks I jumped feet first into newness and forgot all my best intentions. And I began with small pieces ..

I did raid my scrap box for Pat Sloan's HipTo Be Square challence. So far there is space for 375 2 1/2 squares in my scrap bin. At least it is a start. I think my scrap useage is controlled random because I have trouble just pulling bits and stitching them together.

I will also work on the Sloan Mystery 2015 .. Vacation Time. I am stitching this in two different colorways and mostly stash . I did however need to buy a lovely green to match the flowers. And a picture in the snow seemed to fit the weather.

These are paper piecing blocks from The Adventurous Quilter's  2015 BOM. Last fall I picked up PP again and am enjoying how relaxing it can be.

I am also playing with these pretty fabrics for the We Support You blog hop hosted by Sew WE Quilt.  Watch on Feb 6 for my creations.

We are in the middle of a snow/freezing rain/ice pellets combination so the happiest place for me might be stitching with a cuppa near by.
